Dub Echoes is a documentary movie made in 2009 and directed by Brazilian director Bruno Natal. It is about how did live processing start reaching the audience and became a music genre in 1960’s.
The idea behind Dub was to make the instrumental remix version of the original song by using some effects such as reverb, echo and phaser realtime. It’s where the engineer becomes the artist.
“Every object has it’s shadow, dub is the shadow of the tune…” says Mad Professor, the UK dub professor.

On 29th of December 2011 for the first official Istanbul Share & Dorkbot event we build a installation on a fire-escape at Santral Istanbul.
We put 22 contact microphones that we build under the stairs. People walking or jumping over the stairs triggered the microphones and the audio signal coming out of the microphone went to our patch that Can build for the installation. Audio Signal was converted to midi so that it play-backed some loops, samples we have chosen.
This was our first try, now we have a composition tool that we can work on!
Here are some photos and a video!

First Offical SHARE & DORKBOT Meeting @ ISTANBUL!
As Musical networks and connectivity class at Bilgi Music department, we had a goal of starting two electronic arts networks in Istanbul: DORKBOT & SHARE
What is dorkbot & share?
DORKBOT (www.dorkbot.org) is a network based on the motto of people doing strange things with electricity!
SHARE(www.share.dj) is a open jam for audio and visual artist which gives us the opportunity to meet and play together.
As Bilgi music department we are opening our space to create and evolve these networks in Istanbul. Our first meeting will be on 29th of December at 19:00, we will talk about these networks and discuss the future opportunities that we can create. People who are interested in electronic arts (audio and visuals) are kindly invited so that we can unite and develop an environment for us in Istanbul. We are going to be jamming that day, so please bring your equipment and spread the word around.
Date: 29 December 2011
Time:19:00
Place: Bilgi Universitesi Santral Istanbul Kampusu E4 Binasi
We are planing to make a sound installation for our upcoming DORKBOT and SHARE event. We chose our place and started making contact mics ourselves. We made a soldering party for building 22 contact mics. I went to the “electronics bazaar” before to get the equipment we need and started soldering for the first time.
Can, made a Max/msp patch that can realise our mission.
Here are some photos from our soldering party and sound installation location at Santral Istanbul.
We are planing to build the installation on 26th and 29th of December.

And since to the end of the academic term is close, we decided on our date for our event which is: 29 December 2011 19:00 at Santral Istanbul E4 building. We will introduce SHARE and DORKBOT and will be jamming after, hope to see lots of audio, visual people and electronic geeks there!! It will nice if you start spreading the word around.
On the 17the of November we had our guests from Germany Leibzeig, Germany Hannah and Rene (Hasierehei) and Burcu Gunduz (Vjunk) from VJ Fest Istanbul. Burcu had an overview about the festival and Hasierehei told us about their favourite works and vision followed by a Resolume workshop. Actually I liked the following video they showed, complex but interesting idea.

This week we decided about our event date (SHARE & DORKBOT event I) which is 29th of December 2011, just before the new year!!! The exiting debate of this week was about planing a sound installation on rusty steel stairs in Santral Istanbul. On the coming week we are going to be get our hands to work, starting making our contact microphones and cables ourselves!!! Soldering will be a weird adventure i guess… A max/msp patch for a contact mic: Tuna PaseElectronic Instruments built in Tupperware
Tomomin (1994) is my first self-made instrument, is a simple monophonic oscillator which covers all hearable range by 1 knob operation. Of course the name of the instrument refers the historical electronic instruments “Theremin”. I made and sold for many musicians, Mike Patton, Omoide-hatoba and some other musicians have used it. Now there is no availability. The sounds can be heard on CD “Sparkling materialism”.
